When I used to think of the words ‘wellness’ or ‘holistic’, I used to picture in my mind someone who was very much like Jenny from Forest Gump. Free loving, free spirited, and willing to fly in the face of normalcy. But, after I had to find a new career direction, I began studying holistic nutrition and realized that I was wrong.


Holistic is about incorporating all aspects of yourself into your health and nutrition plan. It looks at you as a whole; your spirit, your mind, your body. When you consider holistic principles, you must take into consideration that what affects your body, affects your mind and your spirit. And vice versa.

At first, living holistically was a challenge for me. I thought I had to be this super spiritual person who meditated multiple times a day and always ate organically grown foods to live a holistic lifestyle. It wasn’t until I realized that living a holistic lifestyle is not about the destination, but it is about the journey. I finally realized that it isn’t about being perfect all the time, it is just about working every day to be a little better than the day before.

I do believe in meditation, in fact I think everyone should have a meditation practice (but that is for another post). I also do believe in eating organically grown foods with absolutely no GMO’s. But, I will be the first to admit that I do occasionally eat a very fattening, not good for you at all, non-organic burger or pizza. I’m only human after all. But, it is what I choose most of the time that defines my holistic lifestyle.

Living holistically isn’t difficult. It is quite rewarding. It is only about working to live in optimal health and striving everyday to be the best version of yourself that you are capable of at that moment.
